# First-time plugin developer needs debugging help

 * Hi guys,
 * I finally screwed up the courage to create a WordPress plugin after years of 
   playing with other people’s code…and it’s not working.
 * Here’s the plugin: [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/windy-citizen-share/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/windy-citizen-share/)
 * It’s very simple. It adds “Share” buttons for a niche social news site to the
   end of WordPress posts.
 * There’s also a simple admin page that lets the admin make a few changes to how
   the button displays.
 * The code appears to be working on my 2.6 blog. But my 2.7 friends are having 
   problems.
 * 1. How do people test WP plugins?
 * 2. Anyone have a sense of what’s wrong with mine? I think it has to do with how
   the button code is being added to the blog. Something’s not escaped properly.
 * Thoughts?

 * 1 – Easiest way to test multiple versions is to build yourself a local install
   of WordPress. Xampp or Wampserver (among others) make it very simple to get the
   necessary environment up and going.
