# Fixing [caption] shortcode

 * I’m having some trouble with the [caption] shortcode not working. The image displays
   fine but the caption does not.
 * Here’s what I have in the WP editor:
 * `<figure>[caption]<img src="https://www.mysite.com/image-name.jpg" alt="" /><
   a href="https://photocredit.com">Photo Credit Link</a>[/caption]</figure>`
 * When the page renders, only the image appears, but the caption (photo credit 
   link) is stripped out.
 * Is there an easy way to find and replace in my database to get captions working?
   I have hundreds of posts with captions formatted this way, and none of them are
   appearing.

 * If you look at the code here:
    [https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/img_caption_shortcode/](https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/img_caption_shortcode/)
   line 1560 shows that it wants at least a width or it doesn’t do the caption.
 * There are plugins like Search Regex that help you change many posts with one 
   click.

 * Thank you! I searched and replaced all instances of [caption] with [caption width
   ="1000"] and it worked!! (Used plugin Better Search and Replace.)
