• Payments were failing with an error that reads “Error: Donation amount is invalid” even though users were selecting from predetermined amounts. Then when I logged into the dashboard there was a notice that GiveWP needed to update its access to the WP database (and a recommendation to backup the site). Backed up the site and then clicked on the button to allow GiveWP to update its access to the database.

HOORAY! Problem solved! Payments are now processing again as expected! Except now our Donations list appears to have been partially wiped!

Email addresses are replaced with the word “Unknown”, donor names are replaced with “(donor missing)” and instead of showing donation amounts via payment gateway every line says “$0 via”. It’s pretty clear that reestablishing connection wiped the data but I’m wondering if I can find it somewhere since I have a full backup of the site.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I’m attempting to track down the donors who attempted to donate but experienced the payment failing error 🙁

    Hi there,

Most likely the donation data is not “wiped” but the DB update process did not complete properly. I would definitely recommend first restoring that backup that you took (congrats on doing best practices — SUPER important when handling donations). After that, I might recommend trying to deactivate as many other plugins as possible before running the DB update. My guess is that a security or database caching plugin has prevented the DB update from completing properly.

After you do that, if you still have trouble, can you paste your System Info here? That might give me more insight into what might be going on. Go to “Donations > Tools > System Info”.

Thanks! We’ll get this worked out, no worries!
