Hello,
We’ve tested this with the latest version of both Contact Form 7 and this plugin with the Twenty Nineteen theme and didn’t run into the issue described.
Some things to debug this kind of issue.
1) Ensure both plugins are up to date.
2) Ensure that the reCaptcha plugin is configured properly and that your domain is whitelisted with the API keys.
3) If google.com is blocked at your location you can use this plugins settings to have the API use recaptcha.net instead.
4) Take a full backup of your theme and database ( you should be doing this regularlly regardless of issues, backups are great! ). Install the WordPress Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This will allow you to safely ( just for your logged in user ) disable all plugins except Contact Form 7 and This plugin to see if the issue persists. It will also allow you to switch to a default theme to see if the issue lies with the theme itself. At which point you can enable plugins until you find the one causing issues.
We’ll leave this thread open and hope to hear from other users who either have the same issue or are not having issues but the above will at least help you narrow down what could be causing this problem. If you do end up finding a solution we would love it if you were to report back here and let us know, maybe there’s something we can do on our end to prevent this type of issue from cropping up in the future.
Have a wonderful rest of your week!
Thanks so much for your quick and detailed response. It actually does look like it might be an issue with Contact Form 7, the support forum over there today has a lot of new posts with the same error I am getting. I’ve had to roll back a Contact Form 7 version and things are working again, so I’m almost certain it isn’t to do with your plugin now. I still really appreciate your time and response.
Also your plugin has been a life saver for us after the cf7 v3 recaptcha update so that you so much 🙂
@geoanderson
We are having a similar problem with Contact Form 7 v 5.1.4 and recaptcha v 3.
You mentioned that you went back to V2. I can’t find any directions on how to do that. We no longer have our v2 keys and secret key. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

I actually ended up rolling back the Contact Form 7 plugin version from 5.1.4 to 5.1.3, which meant the V2 keys I had in place started working again.
If you’ve lost your V2 keys then I’d suggest login to Google ReCaptcha to retrieve them or recreating new ones to get things working again.
Hope you manage to get things working again.

You would need to install this plugin ( Contact Form 7 – reCaptcha v2 ) to revert your Contact Form 7 back to the Version 2 reCaptcha. This additional plugin is a Contact Form 7 extension to revert the old reCaptcha.
Once the plugin linked above has been installed you can follow the Installation Instructions to help you revert your reCaptcha to Version 2.
If you need additional assistance please open a new thread and we would be happy to help!
