 * When I specify a $limit, it takes this value and multiplies by 3.
 * Is that intentional?

 * Yes. It is. The idea is because the plugin needs to retrieve more than the recommended
   posts to deal with exclusion settings that delete some of the posts in the array.
   You can use strict_limit = 1 if you don’t want this.
