 * I am a freelance developer and absolutely love wordpress. I have a client that
   is peaking that users in their database (people who have registered on their .
   org self hosted site) are somehow connected to the main wordpress.com database.
   This is absolute rubbish is it not?

 * Yes you are correct the users of a self-hosted site are in now way tied to wordpress.
   com or wordpress.org. There are some plugins that offer openid integration which
   you might want to look into though if this is something that they are wanting.
