# General issues with image width.

 * For my review pages, I use a template containing the Featured Image block set
to a height of 350px with an unspecified width. On this specific page, the featured
image I’ve uploaded has a base resolution of 849x600px.
 * My understanding is that it should be auto-resized to fit the block’s specified
350px height. I look at the page, and to me it seems the image displays larger
than 350px. To test this, I screenshotted the page (displayed at 100% in Chrome)
and pasted it into MSPaint. I opened another MSPaint tab and resized the source
image to 350px (instead of the original 600px). Then I selected that image and
cut and paste it into the screenshotted page after I cropped the displayed image.
 * This was the result:

 * So, I’m being told that both of these images are being displayed at 350px height,
when that doesn’t seem to be the case. Does anyone know what’s causing this?
For the record, whatever height is being displayed on this page _right now_,
I actually **like**. It’s my intention to set my template Featured Image block
height to that same size, but I currently don’t know what WordPress is actually
doing with resolutions, so I don’t know what to do.
 * Any explanation for the discrepancy?
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fgeneral-issues-with-image-width%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * The actual size that gets displayed depends on your theme’s settings.
    Looking
at your site, you use `site-export` theme, which could not be found in the wordpress.
org/themes/ directory, as far as I can see.
 * If this was a custom theme, you may have to go back to your developer team and
ask them to make the necessary change(s) to the theme.
 * Support of all commercial themes and plugins is out of scope for these forums.
While we will not close your post, we also cannot guarantee any support at all,
be that by volunteers or the developers. We recommend you instead use the developer’s
official contact for their premium offerings, as that is the most direct line.**

 * Thank you for your detailed response. However, I am still a little confused.
The theme I’m using is Assembler, which is the default theme of WordPress.com.
I imported it from when I was using their free hosting. It’s a free theme, not
   a commercial one.
 * I am new to WordPress, so my understanding of some things may be incorrect. If
I go to my themes and select “customize” for my Assembler theme, it takes me
to site-editor.php, which I think is standard for WordPress. If themes are the
only thing that affect displayed image size, then why am I usually able to change
the size by changing block settings? I’m not sure where to go from here, sorry.
 * **Edit:** I’ve noticed that when I change the Featured Image block height size,
it affects some pages, but not the one I’ve linked in this thread. They are all
using the exact same template, so this shouldn’t be the case.

 * By the way, is your site a wordpress.COM blog?

 * If you’re asking if I’m paying for hosting through wordpress.com, no, not anymore.
My site started as that, but I transferred it to my new host (Reclaim Hosting).

 * Hi [@noahsbarks](https://wordpress.org/support/users/noahsbarks/)
 * Thank you for the update.
 * Based on the computed browser values the image is indeed rendering at 350px [https://monosnap.com/file/fhxubJI2YQVZhTmKYiyV9Y4C3LRI7O](https://monosnap.com/file/fhxubJI2YQVZhTmKYiyV9Y4C3LRI7O)

 * So I tried the same test you did by taking a screenshot and using photopea (
free online ) to compare a 350px square but seems the same [https://monosnap.com/file/h3274XM7tDZrsrDdqaEhYEWFtIqrxV](https://monosnap.com/file/h3274XM7tDZrsrDdqaEhYEWFtIqrxV)
 * In that case, I believe it could be something related to screen resolution, but
based on all my tests the image sizes are fitting well. You can also try a default
WordPress theme just to confirm the theme is not messing anything but since I
couldn’t replicate it indicates that you fixed the problem for that link or it
   is a local issue.
 * About the theme, you explained you moved away from wordpress.com I suggest switching
to a native WordPress theme such as the 2025 theme to ensure you will receive
   updates.
 * Best Regards
    Patrick Freitas

 * Thank you, Patrick. While I haven’t resolved it on my end, I’m relieved to hear
that my viewers are at least getting the intended experience. I do have a laptop,
which gives me an unusual resolution, but I’m not sure why it would auto-adjust
the image when viewing the page yet display it properly if I view a direct link
   to the image.
 * I appreciate your advice on themes as well. I initially wanted to try a new theme,
but it broke my site because everything was set for the Assembler theme. I may
just have to put the work in to manually converting my site. Thank you!
