Getting Error message in the field

Google has made the use of a Key a requirement – since June 22, 2016.

If you don’t have a key, here is a tutorial:

If you were using Google Web Services on your domain prior to June 22, 2016, you can use the 1.1 version of BP xProfile Location. You can get it here:
https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/bp-xprofile-location/developers/ under ‘Other Versions’

The ‘Update Notice’ for 1.2 states that you don’t need 1.2 if you were already using 1.1. But if you decide to update, then you will need a Key.

It is a little confusing, but we do not control Google policies.
