I had a LONG post almost completed, and my 10YO caused me to dump a whole glass of water next to my laptop – in the rush to save the laptop, I hit a key and it is GONE. After fighting WordPress.org and GoDaddy for the past day, it’s just the icing on the cake… * Anyway, here is the issue. I’m going to be more brief this time because I need to get some sleep soon. I’ve had a WordPress.com blog for a few months, as well as a domain name which redirected to that blog. No problems whatsoever. I chose, because I want to be able to accept paid advertisers and do Rafflecopter giveaways on my blog, to purchase three months’ of hosting through GoDaddy (where I bought the domain) and switch to WordPress.org. I started out with the five-minute installation; it is now going on about twelve HOURS of work on my part and it is still not functioning. GoDaddy has an option where you just click and it adds a subdomain titled “wordpress” with most of the files you get in the WordPress.org download( it didn’t have the install.php file though). I tried that – twice – and it still won’t work. At first, it was because I wasn’t putting the information into the wp-config.php file correctly; I fixed that after finding some blogs that explained it, but I still can’t get past the installation of WordPress.org. * I’ve tried reinstalling WordPress via the GoDaddy site, as well as manually uploading the WordPress.org files via the GoDaddy FTP feature. I was going to try FileZilla but can’t because it won’t let me until I pay for it and I can’t afford it yet. I’ve put the install.php file into the main domain folder, as well as the subdomain folder; but when I try to open it in my browser, instead of the WordPress.org installation screen, I get redirected to my WordPress.com page. I suspect it has to do with the DNS information at one of the sites but I’m not THAT technical and don’t want to mess anything up. * So, long story longer, I own [http://www.learning2save.com](http://www.learning2save.com) and I was pointing it to [http://kat569.wordpress.com](http://kat569.wordpress.com). In trying to make the switch to the self-hosting through GoDaddy, when I try to open wp-admin/install.php in my browser, instead of the WordPress.org install screen I get [http://kat569.wordpress.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php](http://kat569.wordpress.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php) and an error message with my background theme showing. I’m beyond frustrated at this point. I’ve emailed GoDaddy but wanted to also post here to see if anybody had any suggestions. Thanks! I did leave it overnight (from 1 AM the first night I was trying until about 3PM the next day), and it hadn’t worked at that point. I will hold off and see what happens. What happens is that the changes you made have to be communicated to all of the domain name servers on the web across the globe. LOL * Today, instead of the redirect back to the free wordpress.com blog, I got this: ———- Error establishing a database connection This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at lisawells569.db.9660461hostedresource.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down. * Are you sure you have the correct username and password? Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname? Are you sure that the database server is running?———- * Now I have redone the wp-config.php file about a million times, entering my info. The dbase server listed SHOULD have a period between 9660461 and hostedresource; but even though it IS in my file, it does not show up on this error message. Is that part of the problem? * I found in another thread the suggestion to do a test.txt file to the topmost folder; that DID work. When I put it into the topmost folder and went to [http://www.learning2save.com/test.txt](http://www.learning2save.com/test.txt), I saw exactly what I had saved in that file. * I am now wondering if somehow GoDaddy messed up in installing WordPress (they have a one-click install button). What I ended up doing was going into my GoDaddy account, uninstalling WordPress, and logging out. I then cleared my computer’s cache from my browser and rebooted. I signed back into GoDaddy, reinstalled WordPress using their one-button install feature, and did NOT upload the wp-config.php file (which is what every site I looked at was telling me to do). * It worked. I went to the wp-admin page and it brought up my dashboard and allowed me to set it up! I’ve gotten my theme reinstalled and have added all the fun plugins and other stuff I wanted. And my first post on the new self-hosted blog had the Rafflecopter show up just FINE. * Thank you everybody for trying to help me; apparently I was doing TOO much in trying to install it!
