Google not seeing sitemaps

Hello
I have a site which is doing badly with rankings and search engine recognition.
Webmaster tools say “No sitemaps found for this site”
On the SEO plugin, the sitemap link takes me to a list of 8 sitemaps, some going back 2 months.
I can link to them in my browser, so they are public.
But it seems that Google has not found them, even thought robots visited the quite site recently.
Could you please assist.
