    Hi,

GWT allows to select your language yourself.
    Alternatively follow this thread: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/add-meta-tags-vs-googles-hreflang-links?replies=7

I’looked up what my other site is doing and i am using qTranslate-X and using two languages.
The link is added by the plugin itself and is set different for each url. So I assume you should not add this in Meta-Tag with AMT.

Nicolaie, thanks for looking into this and for the feedback about the hreflang attribute. I haven’t found the time to do any research about if or how these could be implemented in AMT. It is in my TODO list, but things have been moving very slowly lately regarding plugin development.

Time permitting I’ll soon be experimenting with the hreflang attribute and report back about how this could work with Add-Meta-Tags.

    Thanks all for your input.

OK, I’ve done my research about this and I haven’t been able to find a way to integrate hreflang functionality into AMT without having to implement a full multilanguage solution. So, I think it’s much better to do it with a 3rd party plugin.

However, as a quick solution, I’d recommend to manually add hreflang links in each post’s Full Meta-Tags box (needs to be enabled in the settings). This gives you much freedom to point to any location, but it requires a little manual work for every post.

Moreover, the hreflang links could very easily be added programmatically by attaching a filtering function to the amt_metadata_head hook. So, in case the URLs to multilingual content follow a pattern in which only the language slug changes, then adding hreflang links becomes really easy and fully automatic.

Feel free to post your feedback about this. I’m open to suggestions, since this is a useful feature.

    Thanks in advance,
    George

Hi George, sorry for kind of wasting your time.

As I note in my initial mail in this thread, there is no need to handle the hreflang with AMT. Either you set it globally at the Google Webmaster Tool when you use only one language for your site.
If you use more then one languages, then you should have a good language plugin like qTranslate-x. It takes care of adding the hreflang for each page, etc and is very extensible. At least I use it at most of my sites.
And last but not least, it is working (you can have any language) very well with your (AMT) fields too!

So there ist nothing to do here for you!!!
    Cheers

    Hi Nicolaie,

No it was already in my todo list. I had received feedback about hreflang here on the forums and via email and this was an opportunity to take a closer look on what can be done.

There are many good plugins for this job out there. qTranslate-x is a good one. Will give it a try soon.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I’m marking this topic as resolved.

    George
