# Google Webmaster Verification using HTML File

 * I downloaded the HTML verification file from Google. Then I FTP’d it to the root
   of my self hosted site (marcmgraham.com). I then click the verification link:
   
   [http://marcmgraham.com/googlexxxxxxxxxxxxx.html](http://marcmgraham.com/googlexxxxxxxxxxxxx.html)
   and I get a 404 error.
 * favicon.ico is also in the root and when i type this:
    [http://marcmgraham.com/favicon.ico](http://marcmgraham.com/favicon.ico)
   I see my favicon
 * What gives?

 * Never mind;) I checked the permissions on the file and they were different than
   favicon.ico (705). Changed permissions on the google file and now I’m verified.
 * Hopefully this helps somebody else!
