Gutenberg in the current state is unusable for anything except blog posts. If no support for custom meta boxes and taxonomies is added (without having to rewrite them in React) you’re going to see a really big backlash, as many people use WP as a CMS.
UPDATE: I tested a recent version of the plugin (1.9) and although metaboxes show up on custom post types now (one has to add the “show_in_rest” attribute to them, though), some of them still don’t work correctly in some popular plugins. Also, the performance of the whole UI is still not stellar. Sometimes, when I save a post timeout errors occur. The documentation on the Gutenberg Handbook should be improved, too. I cannot find anywhere an exhaustive tutorial on how to convert a plugin that registers some metaboxes to use the new gutenblocks.
UPDATE 2: I’m playing with recent versions of the plugin (2.9) and it has improved a lot since its first releases. But it still suffers in some areas. The columns block (one of the main selling points of this editor) is still nearly impossible to work with. Also, the development of this plugin has revealed some glaring omissions in the REST API: there are no navigation menu endpoints and there’s no way to make a search across post types, for example. The gallery block still lacks some features present in the old core gallery shortcode, too.
UPDATE 3: I’m dropping my review to 1 star again because of the way the editor has been pushed into core in the worst possible way at the worst possible time. Moreover, the columns block is still hardly usable.
