Gamipress does what I need it to do. But the support is lacking. It’s friendly but seldom helpful. And the ongoing development seems almost non-existant.

There’s not a very robust user community out there that I can find. Well, I can’t find any community at all, actually, which is a disadvantage, but that’s certainly not Gamipress’s fault.

My biggest complaint about Gamipress concerns the documentation, which is their fault.

While extensive, the documentation was written in English by someone who does not know English well. There are errors in about 90% of the sentences, so it is very, very difficult to understand. You have to guess at what the writer meant, and if things don’t work the way you expect, you have to think about what else the writer may have meant and try again. It’s tedious and frustrating.

With enough trial and error, one can figure it all out (sometimes), and I’ve wasted several days trying to resolve problems that could have been easily fixed had the documentation been clearly written.

To their credit, when I brought a language error to the attention of Gamipress, they did change the wording in that part of the doumentation, but they really need to have someone who is an expert in English to rewrite their documentation entirely, because that one error is just one of many hundreds of errors.

Though the base plugin is free and works pretty well, they charge an arm and a leg for the add-ons, which are necessary for my site.

Finally, it seems to me that the ongoing development of this plugin isn’t being pursued. They put out updates to existing code but no new add-ons and integrations. That’s a huge problem, I think.

After working with Gamipress for over a year now, I’ve learned that it was originally a fork of another plugin. I’m not sure which one, but I’ll be looking for it, along with better support, better documentation, and more robust development.
