Heavy load due to the number of transients

Hello WooCommerce team. We hope you can help us diagnose and fix an issue with our website.
We host a number of WordPress sites for a variety of clients, most are running fine.
One of our WooCommerce sites is creating heavy load on the server to the point of affecting the visitor experience.

Some details:
Server software: VM, AlmaLinux9, Apache 2.4.65, MariaDB 10.5.29, ModSec2, PHP-FPM8.3
Specification: 32GB RAM, 16 cores on E5-2680 2.8GHz
Site: eurologo.co.uk
2000+ products, 8000+ orders, 2400+ users, 450 product categories
Around 30 global product attributes, of which 2 main attributes (Size and Colour) have under 300 terms each
The site has between 20 to 30 users per day, selecting customised items; they usually spend between 2 and 5 minutes on the site

We noticed that the site was stressing MariaDB with 300 queries per second, consistently – every hour, day and night. It handled it but the CPU load would increase causing a slow down then pages were unresponsive. We traced the problem to the number of transients and switched to Redis which basically just moved the problem to a different cache.
It’s not, compared to others, a particularly busy site and the consistency of the cache queries strikes us as systematic and not user related. Redis in particular shows a handful number of GET wp:transient:wc_layered_nav_counts_pa_size requests being marked as “Slow Commands”.

Do you know what can cause these issues and how do we fix it?
