 * I am currently working on re-designing this website: [http://www.letprotector.co.uk](http://www.letprotector.co.uk)
   with this template design: [http://www.ceqonline.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Let_Template_Home_help.jpg](http://www.ceqonline.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Let_Template_Home_help.jpg)
 * I would like some general help and advice how to go about getting my end result
   to look and function how it should.
 * I’ve been printing all the help documents from codex.wordpress which i need to
   read through. I believe the best way to do this is to design and create in separate
   bit the header, footer, sidebar then in wordpress piece them together. Im just
   worried and concerned about matching it up right when put together in WordPress.
 * I Appreciate your support.
 * Regards,
    pk

 * If you are brand new to WP, start with an existing theme — one that is close
   to the basic layout you want — and that has the functionality you need (either
   built in or can use plug-ins). Then you can modify the existing theme to get
   the end result you want. There are several themes that have nothing more than
   basic structure — they are designed to be almost entirely customized.
 * Trying to build a theme from scratch is not the way to start — unless you already
   know a lot about html/css and php… If that’s not the case, you could also hire
   someone to do the basic work for you — see [WP Jobs](http://jobs.wordpress.net/)
   page.
 * And read the Codex!
 * Google will also find quite a bit of info about this undertaking.

 * Was thinking about creating a child theme from the current theme which is being
   used for the website so i can then play about it. Will that work you think?

 * Sounds like a good idea — you can always change the theme later if you decide
   something else would work better or if you run into problems with that theme.
 * But you also might want to make sure that the existing theme is current (compatible
   with most recent WP version) and has current standards / validating code — just
   avoids problems.
