 * After migrating my website into an updated WordPRess and moving to a new host,
   so many things broke it’s incredible.
 * WordPress has injected weird code into every link — it’s devastating.
 * Look for the “*” asterisks after many words. If the original site, rolling over
   those askerisks would reveal a window talking about the link or object. This
   is an HTML code called “Title” . . . it appears WordPress broke all those links.
 * There are probably tens of thousands of those in the entire site.
 * 🙁
 * Scroll down to a highlighted link “Gutenberg, (Picture)” . . . in the original
   article, clicking the word “Picture” pulled up a picture of Gutenberg in a little
   window which was resizeable.
 * Is there a way to globally FIX that in WordPress? There are probably hundreds
   of thousands of those in the site.
 * *** If WordPress breaks a link, so it no longer works, why does it leave it highlighted????
   People click and nothing happens.
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fhelp-wordpress-bug-inserts-code-into-links%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * Hello again [@60secondz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/60secondz/),
 * My **web browser’s developer tools** show that there are **JavaScript errors**
   on the page:
    [
 * That seems to be the **code** for the **asterisk windows** you mentioned. **Do
   you know what plugin you used to create this feature?**
 * **One option to fix this** is to try **deleting** the cache from **WP Fastest
   Cache ** then **disabling** all its features.
 * When I was troubleshooting this issue, I also noticed that the images are **not**
   displaying on [https://graphic-design.com/2017/01/17/graphic-novel-the-private-beach-of-sexy-and-cynical-trudy-honeyvan/](https://graphic-design.com/2017/01/17/graphic-novel-the-private-beach-of-sexy-and-cynical-trudy-honeyvan/)
   or [https://graphic-design.com/wp-content/uploads/graphic-design.com/design-bookshelf/graphic_novels/Private_Beach/index.html](https://graphic-design.com/wp-content/uploads/graphic-design.com/design-bookshelf/graphic_novels/Private_Beach/index.html):

   [
 * It seems like the images are **not** on the server or at the correct URL, as
   they give a **404 not found error**: [http://www.graphic-design.com/design-bookshelf/graphic_novels/Private_Beach/thumbnails/1.jpg](http://www.graphic-design.com/design-bookshelf/graphic_novels/Private_Beach/thumbnails/1.jpg).

 * YES. The files are there, and the links should work.
 * Somehow, WordPress took over the entire domain and you cannot even “see” other
   files. There are 36,000 graphics files in this domain. WordPress can only “see”
   those which have been imported inside the EDIT interface.
 * NOBODY, not even UpWork “Gurus” which i PAID to do the site can explain. They
   all say “Oh, if WordPress doesn’t know they’re there, it won’t see them.”
 * I think I paid the guy $500 and he installed it wrong. Now I don’t know how to
   fix that.
 * 🙁

 * Yes, there was a java script in the headers of every page in the site, that caused
   the image to “pop-up” in a new window. WordPress stripped all that out when he
   imported a sampling 1,800 articles into the new site.
 * I’ve fixed about 2 dozen pages, but ALL THE REST are sadly broken.
 * None of the internal links work at all. Period.
 * It’s already murdered me in Google rankings. We used to be in the first dozen
   results, now we don’t even show up.
 * 🙁

 * I don’t think WordPress itself is at fault here… My two scans only show two plugins…
 * Yet there’s hints of other plugins acting on the site also. And I’m not real
   enthused about that theme without being able to test a few things there.
 * My system looked at about 1000 files from the site while only finding 2 errors
   until I hit the abort. That’s kind of pointing to a problem where the links are
   munged so badly that they basically don’t exist as written… some really bogus
   code added in somehow in other words.
 * I think what needs to be done is to disable all the plugins and go to a generic
   theme for a bit of time and get that Javascript that’s clobbering those image
   links to working.
 * I think doing that will uncover the real problem and get you to a point where
   the problem can then be fixed properly and links can be rebuilt.

 * I have no idea that plugins are installed, nor what they do.
 * Like I said, I paid a “WordPress” developer to migrate my existing site to this
   new WordPress template.
 * So I have to search for another “WordPress” developer.
 * 🙁

 * I’m not exactly sure how to help you here…
 * What can I do to help you figure this out? I can see the problems and think the
   path I mapped out for you should get you there with a little bit of work.
