# HELP: wp-admin white screen?!

 * Ok – please be gentle, I am very new to WP and don’t have any technical knowledge
   the content of many of the threads I’ve searched here.
 * I think my WP did an upgrade recently. Since that point, I’ve been unable to
   log onto the admin screen. When I enter the link, I just get a white screen.
   I understand that this is common with php issues, following upgrades?
 * How can I fix this?
 * I’ve tried to follow instructions to rename my plug-in folder (and create a fresh/
   empty one), but that doesn’t seem to do anything.
 * Other than that, I am stumped. I don’t know much about database management –
   struggling even to know how to back-up. Worried terribly about losing all my
   forum posts (12 months of hard work).
 * Can someone please take the time to talk me through this and help me regain access
   to the admin screen so that I can breathe life back into my (now very silent)
   blog?
 * Thanks in advance..

 * Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s
   folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using
   [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or whatever file management application
   your host provides.
 * – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from
   a **fresh** download of WordPress.
 * – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php

 * Further to my first post, I have found an error log file on the system. I am
   not sure if this will throw any light onto the matter:
 * [31-Oct-2011 16:25:47] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 262144 bytes exhausted(
   tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home/scubatec/public_html/scuba_blog/wp-admin/

 * I’m using cPanel X for my FTP.
 * How can I back-up my posts/content, to ensure it isn’t lost when working on this
   problem. Sorry… clueless and paranoid.

 * Try increasing the memory available to PHP:

 * Thanks.. so (clueless again) where do I find the PHP.ini file within the database(
   on cPanel)?

 * You will need to ask your hosts for assistance with this.

 * The php.ini file is typically in your public_html folder on cPanel accounts.
   However, you may need to consult your host like esmi said.
