# Hidden Users?

 * Hi,
 * I got caught with the hidden admin users hack a while ago but thanks to the forums
   here, it was solved.
 * Today, I was looking at my users page and noticed that I seem to have more users
   than the total of my roles show. In addition, I have about 60 users set with 
   no role on the blog, but that still doesn’t add up.
 * Here are my totals:
    All (1,992) | Administrator (2) | Subscriber (1988) Displaying
   51–100 of 2,260
 * Both administrators are fine and no “hidden” admins appear and then disappear.
 * Can anybody explain what’s happening please?
 * Also, is there a way to email all users and have them confirm they want to stay
   a member and delete all that don’t. Like a spring clean, since the site has been
   running WP for a few years now.

 * First, disable all of your plugins and switch to the default theme to eliminate
   the possibility that something is messing up those counts. I have seen this before
   and I think it was a plugin causing it, but that might not be true in your case.
   If you still get oddball counts I’d worry a little.
 * I wouldn’t recommend bulk emailing through WP even if you could find a plugin
   to do so. Sending 2260 emails from your domain all at once is a good way to trigger
   spam filters. I speak from experience. It happens to us about every two or three
   months (almost always with Hotmail and affiliates) and that is sending maybe 
   a hundred or two per day, not two thousand at once. There are online ‘newsletter’
   services that will let you avoid that problem. It is pretty easy to download 
   the email column from the users table into an excel spreadsheet and upload to
   a newsletter service.

 * Thanks for the reply. To be honest I didn’t think about plugins or themes for
   this particular issue.
 * I’ll disable the plugins and theme and report back in a few days.
 * Thanks for the advice on the emailing too.
