• Hello team!

After changing the system from “Feed” (where Facebook downloads a static XML file periodically) to “WooCommerce By Meta (Application)”, we are experiencing peak bandwidth consumption.

This is because synchronization happens via API in real time. Whenever a product is edited, sold, or even viewed, the plugin makes an outbound call, and the Meta bots (facebookcatalog/1.0, meta-externalagent/1.1, meta-externalads/1.1) immediately visit the site to validate the data. This is causing the high bandwidth consumption, which is limited on the Rocket.net server.

How can I reduce and limit the speed of the Meta bot?

Watch the video; it shows the IPs and bots on Facebook:

    Hi,

All right, I have removed the managed challenge.

And we definitely understand. We have also noticed an unreasonable amount of crawling from Meta, so we already have a platform-wide rate limit in place.

So there is nothing else we can do from our side, besides blocking it completely for your site.

Let us know if you’d like to proceed.

Hi @emersongodoy , thank you for reaching out!

There is no plugin-related setting that will allow you to control the bot/consumption. That being said, we have forwarded this issue to the Dev team.

For the time-being you can block the bot (by adding it to the disallow list in your robots.txt), or you can introduce a rate limit, and cap the number of requests the bot is allowed to send.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards,
    Marija
