 * One of my installed plugins requires wp_mail() function to work. If I install
   the plugin, will the issue be resolved? Or should I contact my hosting provider
   first?

 * Yes you can easily install Mail Booster and configure it using your own SMTP 
   Settings available from your host.
 * Once properly configured, all of your emails will be sent via this route.
