 * However, my wp comments are still coming through — mostly from spammers, although
   today I got a non-spam ping.

 * Disqus doesn’t replace/handle pingbacks, so it sounds like these users are creating
   those directly? You might want to try disabling pingbacks from your WordPress
   settings and seeing if that stops them.
