how does wordpress initiate its self

    I have installed wordpress before on another one of my servers. I put the “wordpress” directory in my /var/www and linked from my apache server to the directory via a ‘blog’ button….at least I believe.

    I installed another server today, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with LAMP. I installed the worpress in the /var/www.

    It doesn’t work. I get the apache “It works” default page. Does moving it to root mean installing the “wordpress” directory in / or in apache’s root directory??

    should I be pointing to http://example.com/wordpress
    or is there another file I should be pointing to??
