• Hi. WordPress newbie that has read through documentation and help forums but still can’t figure out how to do what I want.

I want my main page to my site to have a static information message at the top plus below it either a list of headlines of blog posts or the blog posts themselves. What is the easiest way to do this?

I’m using Suffusion theme. Thanks in advance. I am sure there is some simple way to do this with templates or such but I cannot for the life of me figure it out.

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I do know how to create either a static front page OR a page with blog posts. I also know how to put the blog post headlines in a sidebar or footer (or above-the-footer widget area). I don’t like the look of the sidebars and footers, though; the layout is weird no matter where I put the menu. I really want to be able to have a standard sidebar, content right in the middle, and the list of blog headlines below the content (not as an above-the-footer widget area).

    Thanks.

You may want to query posts in a static page below the loop which will show your static content. You can do that manually with a custom page or use one of many plugins which list posts sorted by category on pages, often with a shortcode used in the page content area. You could also use a sticky post for the static info.
