# How to fix error message about utf8mb4 database conversion (WordPress plugin)

 * **Matomo Install Version: 4.12.0** (Install date: 2022-11-22 14:20:14)
 * I’ve installed Matomo on my site using the WordPress plugin, and am getting this
   message on the plugin diagnostics screen:
 * > Your database supports utf8mb4 charset, but your database tables have not been
   > converted yet. You can do this by executing the command `/home/dbname/public_html/
   > wp-content/plugins/matomo/app/console core:convert-to-utf8mb4` or activating
   > the automatic conversion in General Settings.
 * There is no General Settings tab in the WordPress plugin dashboard. In the Matomo
   dashboard, there’s Systems > General Settings, but no setting to activate automatic
   conversion.
 * How do I fix this error message if I’ve installed Matomo via the WordPress plugin?

 * Thanks but where or what is ‘the console’? I read the guide on your site for 
   the WordPress plugin but it refers to an automatic conversion option in General
   Settings that doesn’t exist in my version.
 * Can WordPress plugin users fix this database error / conversion using the plugin
   alone?

   we’d love to help, it has something to do with the settings of your database 
   inside your hosting server. I would recommend to check the settings on your control
   panel or contact your hosting provider for assistance.
