How to make size "compact"?

I’ve tried manually adding the following to the plugin code to produce the “compact” version of the form, but it had no effect. I found the code at Google Dev, so I know it should work based on other examples I’ve seen. How should I implement to the existing plugin and would you consider adding it as a feature/option in the future.
