How to paste into WordPress without pulling in extra formatting code

I am trying to copy and paste into word press, but every time I do it pulls in extra formatting code and changes the look of the final blog. I have tried converting the copy to plain text before I copy and paste, but then it converts all of my hyperlinks to plain text as well. Is there a way to fix this? I have tried using multiple word programs and can’t seem to figure this out. Help would be much appreciated!
