 * I may have followed outdated or poor advice by completing the steps outlined
   in [this iThemes Security support post](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-reset-ithemes-security-plugin-to-fix-issues?replies=113),
   but after completing the steps I received this message:
 * > One or more database tables are unavailable. The database may need to be repaired.
 * To no avail, I followed the instructions to repair it. I then attempted to restore
   the database from backup. Only after disabling the “better-wp-security” plugin
   via FTP was I able to access the admin dashboard and bring the website back up.
 * I’d love to keep using iThemes Security on our site, but I’m unsure of how to
   correctly reinstall or reset iThemes Security, since my database still includes
   some ITSEC tables. Thoughts? Suggestions?
 * Thanks in advance!

 * To delete\recreate(reset\initialize) the iTSec plugin database metadata add the
   following line to the wp-config.php file:
 * define(‘ITSEC_DEVELOPMENT’, true);
 * Then login WP Dashboard and deactivate\activate the iTSec plugin.
    (Do **NOT**
   delete the iTSec plugin !)
 * Don’t forget to remove the added line in the wp-config.php file afterwards.
 * **Use the above procedure at your own risk.**

 * Thank you [@dwinden](https://wordpress.org/support/users/dwinden/). I still had
   to manually disable the plugin by changing the folder name, but once in was able
   to log in, I corrected the folder name. Just that alone didn’t solve the problem,
   but I _did_ delete the plugin using the plugin repository, so that all database
   tables were removed as well.
 * Then, I was able to reinstall the plugin through the repository and manually
   add in my settings.
 * All is well now. Thank you!
