• I wish to create pages, make them public, but not have them be a part of the top menu over which there is so little control. For example, I want to have my “About Us” and “Contact Us” pages available only in a footer menu and not in the main menu at the top of the page. How does one accomplish this?

It depends on your theme, if it has a footer menu. If not, you may have to modify it. Anyhow, when you create a menu in APPEARANCES->MENU, you’ll see that there’s a “Locations” tab where you can assign the menus to various locations supported by your theme.

I appreciate your help, Steven, but that wasn’t my question. I already have the footer menu in place. My struggle is with removing the same items from the top menu. Apparently any public page one creates ends up in that menu system, and I am trying to figure out how to delete items from that menu system. As a matter of fact, I cannot find any way to edit it at all–except for prioritizing the items in it.

Unless your theme offers a menu location for ‘Header/Main/Primary/Some Other Area’ that you can assign an actual menu to, you can’t. From what you’ve said it sounds like your theme creates a default menu in the header area, and that includes all pages of your site in their hierrchical order.

If your theme doesn’t have an option to assign that, then you’ll need to ask at your themes support forum as they’ll be able to tell you what can and can’t be done with that particular theme.

    Thank you for that, catacaustic.
