# htacces problems

 * Hello,
    I just uploaded a newly created .htaccess file to the root of my server
   and had the following error message when trying to view my blog:
 * > _500 Internal Server Error_
   > The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable
   > to complete your request.
   > Please contact the server administrator, root@localhost and inform them of 
   > the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have
   > caused the error.
   > More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
 * What just happened here? Any help would be great.

 * You have an error in your .htaccess. Delete it and you should be able to access
   your blog again.

 * thanks iridiax, I did it and my blog works fine, but it didn’t solve my “pretty
   permalinks” option. I called my hosting provider and they told me that I have
   some htaccess conflict with other htaccess files in other directories. How can
   I find the rogue htaccess files and change them to fix this issue. thanks!

 * The .htaccess file most likely to be causing trouble would be one closer to the
   root level of your website. However, you can get these errors with only the .
   htaccess in your WordPress directory if something in it is incorrect.
