 * Hi
    After this mornings plugin update I now get HTTP ERROR 500 on my site and
   cannot access my site or admin. Please advise on a solution. I could delete the
   plugin from cpanel but is there a better solution?

 * Re the above I contacted my host, they ran some tests and the issues seems to
   be with the .htaccess file. The current shield plugin update has made changes
   to .htaccess causing the http error 500. Im not sure what those changes are so
   I will wait to hear from you. Please advise.
    Thanks.

 * Shield never writes to the .htaccess file, so you have something else that did
   it. That is one of the tenets of Shield – not writing to core system files.
 * What happened was, Shield was upgraded. Something else caused the problem around
   the same time, and you’ve equated the 2 events.
 * Hope you find the problem.

 * Thanks for the quick reply Paul. That is strange since http 500 error happened
   right after I updated the shield plugin. No other plugins were updated and prior
   to the update I was able to login to my wp admin without any error. No other
   work was undertaken on the site. Hmm… most strange

 * Indeed… but if the culprit was .htaccess, it wasn’t Shield 🙂

 * Hi Paul
    I can confirm its the new update to shield plugin is causing the http
   500 error on my site. I used ‘forceoff’ and renamed the plugin file and reset
   the htaccess file. All was well until this morning. I decided to activate the
   shield plugin again and the 500 error appeared instantly. The current shield
   update appears to be conflicting with [wp-hide-security-enhancer](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-hide-security-enhancer/)
   plugin. If I deactivate that plugin then shield works without error.
 * Any resolve around this? Im happy to purchase pro for the support if there is
   a workaround this as both plugins are important to us re security.
 * Let me know.
    Thanks.

 * Yep, custom support like this for 3rd party plugins would only really be addressed
   for Pro subscribers. We wouldn’t have an eta on it, but best thing to do is subscribe
   and then contact support directly, and so on.
 * Also, if it’s going to be working with 3rd party security plugins, the solution
   would probably be built into the Shield Pro version and not the free, depending
   on the complexity.

 * FYI we had the same problem 500 error which is fixed by turning off all settings
   in Shield. Not sure how to proceed at this point other than to leave it disabled
   until there is a solution or roll it back if we can.

 * Did you try disabling any other plugins to get it working?
