 * Every time I try to update plugins I get an error that basically says the site
   can’t be accessed. Usually, when it’s done it lets me back in and I can access
   the admin area.
 * This time I could not. I am getting an http error 500 and cannot access my admin
   area to diagnose the problem and try to fix it. I can’t even access my plugins
   to deactivate those which I believe are posing the problem. I can’t post any
   blog posts or make any edits.
 * What can be done without access to this area ( Other parts of the site do work,
   so a reader can come to the blog from an external link etc and read a post)?
 * I was trying to avoid going the htaccessfile route since I’ve been reading, if
   done incorrectly you can mess some things up.
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fhttp-error-500-86%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * Hi [@cierracharlesalbertinc](https://wordpress.org/support/users/cierracharlesalbertinc/).
 * Thank you for contacting us and sorry to read that you’re having that issue with
   your website.
 * Since your hosting provider seems to be GoDaddy, you can use your login credentials
   to access your account then navigate to built-in File Manager and simply rename
   the folder containing plugins located in /wp-content/plugins/ to something else
   like /plugins-broken/ for instance.
 * That should restore your access to the Dashboard (and will disable ALL plugins).
 * You should also contact your GoDaddy hosting support and ask them to look into
   error.log and tell you what exactly caused Error 500. It will be recorded there.
 * Kind regards.

 * Thank you so much! All I needed to do was go to the back end of my GoDaddy account
   and update the plugins!
 * I’m back in my admin area.
