# HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error)

 * Hi all,
 * I was just editing my theme’s function.php file to enable post thumbnails when
   suddenly my site and dashboard became inaccessible. I am getting the following
   message:
 * > Server error
   >  The website encountered an error while retrieving [http://www.mytraguspiercing.com/wp-admin/theme-editor.php](http://www.mytraguspiercing.com/wp-admin/theme-editor.php).
   > It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions:
   > Reload this web page later. HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected
   > condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfil the request.
 * Does anyone have any idea what went wrong? Was it my fault? Or do I just have
   to wait for the server to fix itself?

 * I would undo the changes you made to the functions.php and see if that is the
   cause. Error in that file do cause major issues.

 * I removed the changes I had made through ftp and that fixed the problem.

   Your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely
   different.
