Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?
– increasing the available memory?
My issue
– I can create a new tag, but can’t assign new tag to a post
– I can create a new tag from quickedit, which assigns to a post.
– Subsequent quickedits attempting to group posts to new tag fail.
– Regular edit attempting to attach post to new tag fail.
Debugging steps.
Deactivated all plugins
Replaced existing theme with default theme
Cleaned options table of all orphans
Repaired all tables.
Same problem
Upgraded from 2.8.6 to 2.9.2 while in above state
Same problem.
PS. Had no issues for over 3 years, upgrading along the way. Just this week, above tag issues. Two other blogs, same procedure, same plugins, one has the same theme, no issues.
