When editing an AE template, I do NOT see a “revisions” overview. I think it is a must have feature for the free version. How do you want to rollback a change otherwise?

Revision is a default WordPress feature and it is also available for AE Templates. In some cases it is hidden because of your Screen Option settings.
You can show it again from Screen Option on AE Template edit screen.

Also as AE Templates are designed to be used with Elementor Page Builder, Elementor itself has a very robust revision feature.
