I Can’t Change Certain CSS

Hello,
I’m trying to change the color of a menu option when a cursor hovers over it. So far, I’ve just been able to copy/paste the element code into the CSS editor and modify as needed. For some reason, some elements won’t edit after I copy/paste them. (Sometimes, I’m not sure how to select the exact code I need to copy, so I copy a lot of code just to be sure I got the right element…could that be the problem?)
