    Hello Mateusz,

I want to test your plugin , I use the cloudflare free dns.
Do I need any additional plugin to get this working 100%,

I saw you recommend a plugin if we use cloudflare Pro, so I want to know if I need an additional plugin. I have the Free Cloudflare.

    Thanks for making the plugin.

    Hi @frometa79,

    Thank you for your message.

In the plugin settings, in the DNS Settings tab, enter all values according to the instruction that can be found there. It’s enough.

To be sure after all this, please send me a screenshot of the Help Center tab in the plugin’s settings. I will check it because in this tab I have an information about your website status.

    Best,
    Mateusz

@frometa79 You probably entered incorrect data for the Cloudflare API. In the Help Center tab, the value “webpc_cloudflare_cache_purge” indicates error 400, which means that the data is invalid.

    Thanks Mateusz for the support.

One quick question: If for any reason while I Optimize the images to webp, I get any issue, or because cloudflare free don’t cache the images, can I revert the changes by deactivating the plugin, and all should be back to normal ?

@frometa79 Yes. Just deactivate the plugin and your original images will be loaded.

Can you provide your website URL? I will test to see if everything is working properly now.

Yes, currently I’m testing it here: https://tucristo.com/beta/

@frometa79, thank you. I am surprised by the number of images on your website – 481. The perfect place to test my plugin!

I ran a test on your website. I simulated browsers with and without WebP support to make sure everything was working. Thanks to this, I can check how much your original images weigh (i.e. what was before installing our plugin) and how much the images converted by our plugin weigh.

Here are the results of my tests:

This means that the plugin is working properly and all images are displayed in the version converted by the plugin.

Please, take a look on your website loading time in my screenshots (you will find it on the bottom bar as “Load” value – marked in red). I tested it on my computer, limiting the internet speed to 10 Mbps. Remember please that mobile internet is often several times lower. I consider it to be a real benefit for your website visitors.

Selected files are not available in WebP format (e.g. Via-Christi-un-parque-tematico-increible.jpg) because they were not smaller than the original when converted to WebP. This is the planned behavior of the plugin and usually results from the fact that the images were previously optimized to some extent. However, this only applies to 15 of the 481 images.

If you would like to further reduce the weight of your images, I encourage you to try the AVIF format. My analysis shows that images in the AVIF format would be half the size of your website, i.e. from the weight of 18 MB images you would be able to go down to about 9 MB.

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to make the test and sending me this information. I will try the AVIF format, Thanks again.
I will create an article later on about your plugin to recommend to our readers your great plugin.

Thanks. For the AVIF optimize, is the same method, Do we keep the original files in server?

    Plugin Author Mateusz Gbiorczyk

    (@mateuszgbiorczyk)

Yes @frometa79 – the plugin keeps the original files and generates WebP and AVIF files based on the original files. Files to AVIF format are converted using a remote server, but are stored on your server.

The principle of operation is the same. The only difference is that images in AVIF format are much smaller, while maintaining better quality of the converted image.

You can find out more in my analysis or on our blog.

    How does it work?

When the browser tries to download an image file, the server checks if it supports the AVIF format (if enabled in the plugin settings). If so, the browser will receive an equivalent of the original image in AVIF format. If it does not support AVIF, but supports the WebP format, the browser will receive an equivalent of the original image in WebP format. If the browser does not support either WebP or AVIF, the original image is loaded. This means full support for all browsers.
