 * I have recently moved from Yoast to The SEO Framework, it has been working great,
   however I have noticed one issue ever since.
 * I’m getting lots and lots of 404 errors from an odd source URL, e.g.
 * [http://www.mygc.com.au/man-found-dead-in-water-tank/data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABAAAAAQCAMAAAAoLQ9TAAABmFBMVEUAAAAXHBcvwvMHOlM4Lw8IISkvw/UgqeH9uiT/qBoCV5ctwPMHYJLkpRsHUnmZbxioiiOVVg0LKzZPOwkCKT8BW54nwfcsvvIWmNYBVpv/ti0luPB0bGP/zy0YfrEhrugqvfMGcLP/kxj/wCYntuz](http://www.mygc.com.au/man-found-dead-in-water-tank/data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABAAAAAQCAMAAAAoLQ9TAAABmFBMVEUAAAAXHBcvwvMHOlM4Lw8IISkvw/UgqeH9uiT/qBoCV5ctwPMHYJLkpRsHUnmZbxioiiOVVg0LKzZPOwkCKT8BW54nwfcsvvIWmNYBVpv/ti0luPB0bGP/zy0YfrEhrugqvfMGcLP/kxj/wCYntuz)
 * The main article URL ([http://www.mygc.com.au/man-found-dead-in-water-tank/](http://www.mygc.com.au/man-found-dead-in-water-tank/))
   is active and resolves, but it seems to have added /data:image/png;base64,iVBO….
   which then generates a 404 in our log.
 * I’m not 100% certain it’s The SEO Framework plugin, but I did temporarily deactivate
   it and these issues stopped.
 * Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 * Your site’s been hacked.

 * Hi there 🙂
 * I don’t think your site has been hacked.
    Base64 is used in HTML for inline-imaging;
   so, there’s no need to upload or escape the image. But, this should never be
   used as a `href` attribute; which is the cause of this error.
 * This is what the decoded base64 image looks like, I think you’ll recognize it
   🙂
    ⌊decoded site icon⌉
 * It seems to be added (incorrectly) by the theme, and they might have an exclusion
   set when Yoast SEO is active. You should be able to find an option in the theme.

   When you can’t find it, you should escalate this with the theme developer.
 * Nevertheless, The SEO Framework doesn’t output favicons.
    I recommend using the
   Customizer to upload a site icon; which is available since WordPress 4.4, IIRC.
 * I hope this helps! Cheers 🙂

 * Thank you [@cybr](https://wordpress.org/support/users/cybr/) – that certainly
   was the problem. As soon as I removed it, the issue went away. Much appreciated.
