 * Hi, I have a problem with captioning photos in Lightbox. Previously, the Lightbox
   displayed a Title, Alternative Text, or Caption below a photo. Now only the signature
   is displayed. Because I have thousands of photos with Title and Alt Text, my
   clients lost important photo descriptions. How to fix it?
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fimage-caption-problem%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * I’m having the same problem with Alt Text no longer showing. I posted a separate
   help request just now.

 * I’m not alone. From what I’ve read, it may have something to do with recent updates.
   If you have information on how to fix this, please let me know. Thank you

 * I’m still waiting for a resolving response on my ticket but I’ll let you know
   if anything turns up helpful. I also suspect this is a glitch from a recent update.
 * Support suggested I use Captions (which also doesn’t seem to render on mobile
   iOS). Also not looking forward to going through hundreds of images to add Captions,
   when Alt Text was rendering just fine before. Good luck.

 * Hi [@pinkpillowpolska](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pinkpillowpolska/),
 * I understand you’re experiencing an issue with alt text appearing on product
   images in the image gallery popup.
   Upon investigation, I noticed that this issue
   didn’t occur in recent versions. After rolling back to some Woocommerce previous
   version with default store theme, it seems the_** Image Title text **_was being
   rendered instead of the **_alt text_**. In the newer version, the** caption text**
   appears instead of the**_ Title Text._**
 * However, some themes might override the default WooCommerce template for the
   product page, which could result in incompatibility with recent updates. Could
   you please confirm which theme you’re using and share how it appeared previously?
   If you have any earlier screenshots, that would be helpful.
 * Additionally, it would help us to review your current System Status Report for
   more insight into your setup. You can find this report in your WooCommerce dashboard
   under **WooCommerce > Status**. From there, select **Get system report** and
   then **Copy for support**.
 * Once you’ve gathered this information, please paste it into a Code block in your
   reply or use [Pastebin.com](https://pastebin.com/) to share the link with us.
 * Looking forward to hearing from you!

 * Hi, thanks for your reply. It may be as you wrote that the Image Title was always
   displayed in the Lightbox instead of the Alt Text (in my case it was usually
   the same texts), so I could have made a mistake. Now nothing is displayed except
   the Caption Text if I type anything there.

 * Hi [@pinkpillowpolska](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pinkpillowpolska/)
 * You’re correct that the Image**_ Title tag_** was previously used for display
   in image popups in older versions. However, it seems you may have mistaken it
   for the**_ Alt Text._** Recent updates introduced new features and fixes related
   to the Product Gallery, which may now require switching from the Title tag to
   the Caption for proper functionality.
 * I understand that updating captions for many images can be a time-consuming task.
   To simplify this process, you might consider using a bulk caption updater plugin,
   such as [Auto Image Attributes from Filename with Bulk Updater](https://wordpress.org/plugins/auto-image-attributes-from-filename-with-bulk-updater/).
   Please note that we don’t provide support for third-party plugins in our WooCommerce
   forum.
 * If you believe this behavior requires attention or could be improved, feel free
   to report it on the WooCommerce GitHub repository: [https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues](https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues).
 * Thank you for your understanding!

 * Thanks for trying to help, but that doesn’t solve the problem. Most of my image
   file names are something like 06072024_331763113.jpg
   It’s a pity that the update
   does not include the option to display a title or caption. In Elementor there
   is an option to choose what should be displayed in the Lightbox, but apparently
   Woocommerce overwrites everything.

 * Hi [@pinkpillowpolska](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pinkpillowpolska/),
 * As mentioned earlier, I’ve tried to replicate the issue, but I couldn’t reproduce
   it. The image caption appears correctly on my side with the latest WooCommerce
   version 9.4.2.
 * Since the issue is occurring on your end, I recommend temporarily switching to
   a default WordPress theme and deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce. You
   can also perform a full conflict test using this guide: [How to Test for Conflicts](https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/).
   Once you identify the culprit, you can contact the plugin or theme author for
   further investigation.
 * I hope this helps!

 * [@jonayedhosen](https://wordpress.org/support/users/jonayedhosen/) –
 * Can you confirm that WooCommerce made the change from using the Alt or Title
   text under the product photo lightbox to now using the “Caption”. I am here because
   our client that has a huge catalog of products mentioned that they are not seeing
   any text below their images now.
   Upon my own testing, a couple images that I
   have copied the Alt text from and entered it in the caption field, the text did
   display on the front end.My question is why would WooCommerce push out an update
   like this without some type of backwards compatibility to conform to customers
   who have been using the Title and Alt text for years – that now have to go thousands
   of images to update the captions? This seems a bit outrageous to me. Why was
   there no real thought into this?

 * Hi, yes exactly Woocommerce changed the display of captions from Image Title
   or Image Alt to Caption. I spent 2 days and copied the titles to Captions. Now
   when adding new images I fill in Title, Alt and Caption. Unfortunately but I
   had to spend my time to solve the problem that the new Woocommerce update caused
   me…

 * [@pinkpillowpolska](https://wordpress.org/support/users/pinkpillowpolska/) –
 * Thanks, but I am waiting to get confirmation from WooCommerce that this in fact
   is not a bug but a major change in the way the Product image text is handled.
   We have several clients who have thousands of images/products. This is a massive
   undertaking and bad decision on Woo’s part if this is the case.

 * Not sure if you solved this, but I updated all my empty media captions with title
   text in the Db, using:
 * `UPDATE wp_posts
   SET post_excerpt = post_titleWHERE post_type = 'attachment'AND(
   post_excerpt IS NULL OR post_excerpt = '');
 * Perhaps that will solve your problem as well.
