 * Since upgrading to 3.9, I no longer seem to have much control over the image
   as did before.
 * Eg, I can’t control the space around the image unless I edit the HTML. When 3.9
   came out, I watched the video of the new image editor window but I notice that
   on my site, the entire line of options in the video doesn’t show.
 * I’m confused as right now, 3.9 seems to be a step backwards.

 * Try installing [http://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-image-styles/](http://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-image-styles/)

 * Ok, will do but why has the editor gone backwards?

 * Because the correct way to do this has always been to use a theme that handles
   image padding, margins & borders correctly instead of adding to the page markup.
   This would also be in line with [WPORG “Decisions, not Options” philosophy](https://wordpress.org/about/philosophy/#decisions).

 * OK, but why do I need to add yet another plugin? It seems to me that every time
   I add one it increases the odds of something going wrong.
 * OK, so someone, somewhere made a decision that I knew nothing about nor had any
   control over. An improvement?
 * So on the one hand, wordpress consolidates a lot of functions into Jetpack for
   example, then on the other, takes built-in functions away on the assumption that
   the theme will deliver.
 * My theme can’t even handle wrapping text around an image for more than one paragraph!
 * Sometimes, you need step back from things and figure that less is more.

 * > why do I need to add yet another plugin?
 * Because, right now, that’s your only option. Those image fields will not be coming
   back into WordPress core.
 * > An improvement?
 * The core development team thought so, yes.

 * Correct.
 * > My theme can’t even handle wrapping text around an image for more than one
   > paragraph!
 * Then may I suggest that you try looking for another theme? Decent image handling
   is really one of the most basis things that a theme should be doing. There are
   over 2,000 free themes that do handle image display properly in [https://wordpress.org/themes/](https://wordpress.org/themes/)

 * So now, basic HTML commands, I mean really basic, like back to the very beginning
   of HTML, are now considered optional extras?
 * I think not. As to my theme, well I brought it to the attention of the designer
   and he told me I didn’t know what I was talking about, which is a pity as in
   other respects I really like the theme and am loathe to go back to the one I’ve
   used for years, P2, just because it can handle basic HTML!

 * Yes. This freaked me out today to be in the middle of writing a blogpost and
   discover that this wasn’t a goof.
 * Ok … gonna go install the plugin.

 * Dear Esmi, at least I’m not alone in this…

 * I installed the plugin and all I have are re-size handles and no clear option
   for adjusting how the image sits in my blogpost.
 * So … I wait to hear from someone on the Advanced Image Styles support thread.
 * I also noticed that the image looks in-line in the editor and doesn’t look like
   it’s floating. However, in Preview, the image does indeed float with the text
   wrapped around it. That’s a bit disorienting.

 * Y’know, sometimes and with all due respect, I feel like I’m being talked to as
   if I were a schoolkid, here. Is it really necessary?
 * OzManic’s comments are kinda related and why add yet another thread dealing with
   essentially the same issues? I have no objection to OzManic piggybacking if we
   both benefit from the exchange.
