 * Installed Smush and ran my images. Made a minimal difference on images that were
   already processed and compressed before upload.
 * Now I am getting multiple error messages in a yellow side panel:
 * The images listed below are being resized to fit a container. To avoid serving
   oversized or blurry images, try to match the images to their container sizes.
 * But there is no way to know what image is being referred to by each error. No
   way to find how to resize. No way to know what size is intended.
 * I tried [https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/compress-resize-images-wordpress/#ref](https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/compress-resize-images-wordpress/#ref)
 * …no help. On Safari, web inspector, there are a bunch of dimensions. I am not
   a web developer, but pretty facile creating my website. Nonetheless, the explanations
   do not help, and since no error message can be tied to any one image, it is impossible
   to tease this apart.
 * Where does somebody start if they haven’t fixed this in the past?

 * Hi [@swmri](https://wordpress.org/support/users/swmri/) thank you for contacting
   us.
 * I’m really sorry for the issues that you’re having with Smush, if you see the
   images listed in the side panel, you just need to click the images mentioned
   there and the page will automatically scroll to the image that you need to edit,
   you can do this with the WordPress media editor or with your prefered software
   before uploading the image.
 * For example, you can see in this image that it’s being specified in the side
   panel and the image has a yellow border (only visible by you) [https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Smush-wrong-size-detected.png](https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Smush-wrong-size-detected.png)
 * If you don’t see any image in the side panel it could be due to a plugin conflict,
   so if you have a recent backup of your site, could you please run a plugin conflict,
   you can find information on how to do that here [https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordpress-plugin-conflicts-how-to-check-for-them-and-what-to-do/](https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordpress-plugin-conflicts-how-to-check-for-them-and-what-to-do/)
 * Hope this information helps and let us know if you still have the same issues.

 * Thanks, Jorge-
 * Unfortunately, not helpful.
 * Yes, I see images in the yellow side panel. Some will scroll to an image when
   clicked. Others will not. In particular, I am having trouble with a slider where
   I have to wait for everything to cycle, and then try to click rapidly on the
   ten or so images in the side panel to see if the one image in the slider flashes
   white.
 * Then, when I think I have found the image that is being referred to, I find it
   in the media library, but it does not match the size that is being stated in
   the yellow panel. Is this the correct image? Should I resize it anyway? I don’t
   know, and have spent hours trying to figure out what image is being referred
   to.
 * It would be so much better if information in the panel were provided with SOMETHING
   about the image in question, not just a size. As it is, I spend 30 minutes on
   one error, and don’t find an image and dimensions that match. So what do I do?
 * Then, I have a logo at the top. It appears I am getting two errors with different
   sizes for that one. But when I try to find it in the web inspector, I think I
   have the right file, but no, the dimensions are again incorrect and do not match.
   So what do I do with that?
 * Then, I have a circular image, 358×359, and Smush tells me it needs to be 359
   ×359. Why? I would like to ignore it, but the error cannot be dismissed. I am
   not going to change that image for that reason. So what do I do with the error
   message?
 * So I have to say, overall, its not usable, and it wastes a bunch of time, and
   I cannot correct the errors, or even confirm the errors on the right images,
   and I cannot dismiss the errors.
 * So what should I do?

 * Hi [@swmri](https://wordpress.org/support/users/swmri/),
 * This is an advanced feature, very helpful for finding out what thumbnail sizes
   to register in WordPress. Do not treat this feature as a call to action, more
   of an informative feature. How this works is Smush will check the images on the
   page and compare their size to the containers they are in. It will look for an
   exact match, and if the image is larger or smaller than the container – report
   such an image. If it’s off by 50-100 px, I would not recommend doing anything
   with that image. If there’s a big difference – rather than resizing the image,
   first check the settings of where it’s used. If it’s a slider – see if you can
   adjust the size in the slider. Many popular sliders will allow you to choose
   the size of the image or even define a custom size. Same goes for images in post–
   for example, Gutenberg has the Image Size option in the right panel for each
   image. Adjust according to the recommendations. Only if the above does not help,
   should you consider resizing.
 * Also, each image has a class added to it: smush-image-<NUMBER>, where NUMBER
   is the ID of the image on the Smush Image Issues panel. This should help you
   find the images on the page.
 * Best regards,
    Anton

 * You can disable the option “Detect and show incorrectly sized images” in Bulk
   Smush settings.

 * OK, so still don’t have an answer to the issue.
 * Why are images showing up with size X,Y, when I find the same image by title,
   its dimensions are A,B?
 * How can I confirm I am working with the right image?
 * In WP, I cannot change aspect ratio. So one message I get is that 398×399 needs
   to be changed to 399×399. I can find the image, export it via FTP, resize it
   elsewhere, and then re-upload it with the same name, then point the pertinent
   component to use that image instead. This seems like a lot of work, unless somebody
   has a better workflow.
 * Thank you

 * [@swmri](https://wordpress.org/support/users/swmri/),
 * You’re seeing images by title A,B (the dimensions from a registered thumbnail
   size), but they are showing up with size X,Y, because your theme is not properly
   utilizing the thumbnail sizes of images.
 * Images can be bigger or smaller than the container by 50-100px, you can ignore
   such warnings. And the aspect ration can be changed. For default image sizes
   you can set the dimensions in Settings – Media. And some themes will have their
   own thumbnail size setting pages.

 * Anton-
 * Thank you for the response, but honestly, I don’t understand it. I am not using
   thumbnails. I don’t have thumbnails on the pages that are being alerted. The
   sizes listed are not those of thumbnails. So what does thumbnails have to do
   with the issue at all?
 * And the overarching issue is, how do you use this plugin? Its so counter-intuitive
   at the moment. I don’t know what image is sized incorrectly, because the title
   doesn’t match the size of the image with that title. Do I search for thumbnails?
   That doesn’t make any sense, because even the thumbnails aren’t the sizes listed
   by the plugin.
 * Truly, there is no useful step-by-step description. So when there are numerous
   discrepancies on each page, I have no way to figure out where the issue occurs.
   Is it step 1? Is it step 2? Is it an issue with the plugin misregistering the
   image size or title? I have no way of knowing.
 * BTW, you mentioned that aspect ratio can be changed, without describing how.
   Following this, the statement about default image sizes is a non-sequitur. What
   does that have to do with the discrepant title/size issue, or with the thumbnails,
   or with the aspect ratio? By itself, it doesn’t apply to anything discussed elsewhere,
   as far as I can tell.
 * So, I am just lost. The idea was to size my images optimally. Instead, I am spending
   a lot of time just wrangling with the plugin’s warnings, with no way to fix them.
 * That’s all. Thanks for your input, but I am unable to apply it to the issues
   I am working around.

 * Hello [@swmri](https://wordpress.org/support/users/swmri/),
 * Can you share with us your site URL so we can check those images and can you
   make screenshots of Smush and point which images are problematic? That way it
   will help us understand what problem you are facing and see if Smush works correctly
   or not on your site.
 * kind regards,
