When I configure the image to display at less than original size it doesn’t do it. This just started a few hours ago. Switch to a default WordPress theme (2012 or 2013) to see if the problem is theme-specific. THe conflict lies in Jetpack. When I authorize a connection to WordPress.com that’s when the image display stops working. There is some sort of conflict or bug in the latest Jetpack version. * As long as I don’t activate Jetpack, I have no image display issues. Don’t know why I thought it was connected to Jetpack. That will fix it.
