 * I’ve taken a clone of a Live site to “staging” using UpdraftPlus cloning tool.

In the clone was db, theme, plugins only (no uploads due to size – 1904).On “
staging” we then made some significant menu changes. We then reversed the clone
taking just the db back from staging to live. I was expecting the images would
be fine but although all the files are in uploads still (obv) the media lib doesn’t
seem to pick them up. Ok, so I found your plugin. When doing a scan it doesn’t
seem to pick all the images. Is this because they do actually exist in the db?
I’m wondering what the best resolution is. And cannot work out if this is a WP
thing, an Updraft thing or something else.

 * Hi [@wwdadmin](https://wordpress.org/support/users/wwdadmin/), I’m wondering
if those menu changes involved some image changes (or any file changes). If it
didn’t, this scenario might work out.
But still, it seems too risky to do it
partially as you explained, since it depends on what that UpdraftPlus clone does(
which I have no idea of course). So if possible, maybe you can try to always
do a full clone and always replace everything. Otherwise, I’d need more details
to understand the problem. Maybe through an example of one image with all related
changes that happened. It’s quite hard to imagine what could be wrong so far.

 * Even if they do, you can still see them in this plugin (just grayed out).

 * Thanks. Ideally we do normally take an entire clone. As you say, it’s the safest
way. But in this instance it wasn’t possible due to 3Gb of images and the hosting
the site is on. The clone never completes. I have a ticket open with Updraft.
But they are not being very helpful sadly. I’m going to see if I can get a local
clone done by the hosting company and do some tests on there to try and understand
why this is happening. When I have some more specific details I’ll post up. As
it’s a live site we can’t leave the site running with no images so had to go
   back to backup.

 * Right, that makes sense. Another thing to keep in mind is that if some images
are broken in the end (WP can’t find actual files), and you import those files
using this plugin – they might still be broken. Because this plugin would create
new records in Media Library instead of updating broken ones.
 * So if it’s not too many images, maybe it’s better to manually fix it in Media
Library. This plugin could at least show you which Media Library items are missing
actual files with that second button “Filter Media Library”.
 * Or yes, try to see what’s exactly the issue locally.

 * Thanks for the reply. It is indeed an updraft clone issue. Ran the same test
to another website copy of Live and it worked as expected. Used the media sync
plugin to run a check and all 1904 images are there/connected. Thanks for the
   support.

 * Nice! I’m glad it worked out.
