 * At this url:
    [http://www.minutes.townofnelson.com/minutes](http://www.minutes.townofnelson.com/minutes)
   I have uploaded a file: MasterListing_2011.pdf
 * My media settings are to upload to a directory called “documents”.
 * It did upload the file to the correct directory, but when you click on the link
   it goes to:
    [http://www.minutes.townofnelson.com/minutes/masterlisting_2011-2](http://www.minutes.townofnelson.com/minutes/masterlisting_2011-2)
   which is a display of a post. From that page there is the link again, this time
   to the correct directory, and it is accessible.
 * So, it’s not really broken, but it adds an extra and confusing step for anyone
   trying to access the uploaded document.

 * Try checking “Link to File” when inserting documents.

 * I tried this (though I have not had to do this in the past). If I look at the
   link url in the editor, it is correct. However, when the page is published the
   link converts to the post location.
    I’ve been using WP for years and am fairly
   fluent – this is a new situation – very strange.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -
   > Permalinks. If this works, then review [Using_Permalinks](http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks)
   before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.
