 * I’m currently trying to import an old wordpress database (I no longer have this
database hooked up to a wordpress frontend) from years ago into my new multi-
   site wordpress installation.
 * I’ve tried exporting the database into a .xml file and then importing it using
the wordpress importer tool, but I get an error saying that this xml file is
not a valid wxr file (I’ve no idea how to convert it into wxr format).
 * I’m not sure if I’m going the right way about this either. Maybe it’s possible
to use the old database directly by specifying it in the wp-config.php file.
However obviously now my wp-config.php is shared between my other wordpress blogs.
 * Can anyone help me? Pleaseeeeeeee?

 * Did you make the export using WP? Then there should be no problem. The only problem
that _could_ occur is that your export is from a stoneage WP and you try to import
it in a brandnew which has had many database changes. The best way to go then
is to back up the stoneage version, upgrade it to 3.0.1 and then export and import.
 * Unless somebody knows a better trick of course.

 * there is probably a way to do it.
 * you could make a temp install of WP only to export your db using wordpress export
tool, then you should have a valid XML file to import back into your wpmu install…

 * Roy, I don’t have my old database hooked up to a wordpress front end so I can’t
   use the wordpress export tool.
 * stakabo, that’s an idea alright. I just wish there was a simpler way.

 * Then you;re going to have to figure out what version your old db dump is, get
a copy of that WordPress version, install it, restore the db dump & upgrade it
   to now.
 * That *is* the simplest way.
 * After that, then you can export it out and into one of the sites on the network.
 * There’s just too many changes if you’re that far back.

 * Ok cool. That’s what I’ll have to do then. Thanks everyone for your help!

 * Hi
I am also looking for a similar sollution. I have access to the latest databases.
How should I import them one by one to different subdomains in my multisite blog?
Please help. My main site is located at [build muscle burn fat](http://stronglean.co.cc)
and I want to import my [Improve golf Swing](http://simplegolfswingfix.com) site
into a subdirectory called golf. Actually since my site is a .co.cc site, I am
going to buy a generic domain and move a lot of blogs under it. For example 1234blog.
com and then move the above sites into this single generic site. I do not want
to do all the settings again manually. A database import will help to keep all
   settings intact.
