# import from wordpress.com, attachment problem

 * i exported the xml file from wordpress.com with no error. however when i want
   to import the xml file into my own hosting (wordpress.org), and i select to transfer
   the attachment, i got the error below:
 * “Remote file error: Remote server did not respond”
 * FYI, the attachment are image files.
 * In the end, only the post are imported, the attachment are shown but actually
   the attachment still at wordpress.com
 * Thanks and please advise.

 * Have you imported the images as well? The XML file contains the images links,
   not the images…

 * For me, the attachments are downloaded correctly. However, the posts still refer
   to the old location of the images.

 * I am having the same problem as well trying to import into my own domain from
   wordpress.com
 * Importing attachment gives

 * . I figure out that should be due to the permalinks that is enabled on wordpress.

 * I am having the same problem i.e exporting from WordPress.com and importing into
   WordPress.org on my own domain.
 * Error only occurs when Select following option:
 * > Import Attachments
   >  Download and import file attachments
 * Get following error:
 * > Importing attachment [http://example.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/example.jpg&#8230](http://example.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/example.jpg&#8230);
   > Remote file error: Remote server did not respond.
 * If don’t select this option the post and comments import correctly and images
   are included but link to [http://example.wordpress.com/files](http://example.wordpress.com/files)–
   that’s OK for me.
 * However Galleries and Polls are missing – so assume these are Attachments that
   need to be imported.
 * If select Download and import file attachments options for Post with Gallery 
   attached get same error, the post and comments import correctly and images are
   included but link to [http://example.wordpress.com/files](http://example.wordpress.com/files)
   but Gallery is missing.
 * So it looks like Galleries and Polls don’t import regardless of Download and 
   import file attachments option.

 * I am trying to move my blog posts from wordpress.com to a wordpress 2.9 installation
   on a hosting service (ix.com).
 * The export function seem to work fine on my wordpress.com site, but when I try
   to import it to the new site I get this message: “Import WordPress – Sorry, there
   has been an error. 1”
 * Unlike the users above, no options for file attachements,etc. are presented when
   I import.
 * I have tried exporting and importing several times now to no avail.
 * I’d like to know if this this is a known error, before contacting my hosting 
   service?
 * This is a new install of the latest version of WordPress: 2.9.
