 * Importing xml file (from wordpress.com) started well, but failed to complete.
   Background:
I’ve finally decided to make the leap to self-hosting. Successfully
installed WP software to domain (beyond90seconds.com) now hosted by GoDaddy.
Successfully logged-in to my self-hosted wordpress site. Went to tools and began
to import the xml file I’d previously exported from wordpress.com. The importing
began and looked like it was going to work w/o a hitch, but it stopped after
60 files were imported (a fraction of my blog). The screen then read: “_The server
encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete
your request. Please contact the server administrator, [support@supportwebsite.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/importing-xml-incompletefailed/support@supportwebsite.com?output_format=md)
and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available
in the server error log. Apache Server at beyond90seconds.com Port 80._” (view
   the error message [here](http://markhorner.com/jing/beyond90seconds.png)). I
called tech support at GoDaddy and was told this is a WordPress issue and not
a GoDaddy issue. The tech-support guy at GoDaddy did e-mail me the link [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/268660?replies=20](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/268660?replies=20)
and said it might be helpful. I’ve read the page at that link. Some new terminology,
but I’m willing to learn. Not sure, though, if that’s the solve as I’ve searched
the forums here at wordpress.org and have found similar error messages, but haven’t
seen any posts (so far) about this error appearing while importing xml file.
It does seem that this issue may be due an issue with a “.htaccess file.” If
so, is this file found in the xml file that I attempted to import. Or is it located
in the wordpress software that I initially installed at GoDaddy? And is there
more than one .htaccess file in either location? Again, if it is an .htaccess
file, is this something that can be fixed while using an ftp client? Or would
I need to log-in to GoDaddy and fix it there? For what it’s worth, one tech helper
at GoDaddy didn’t exactly offer inspiration for fixing this issue. He told me
it’s very hard to move a wordpress.com blog to GoDaddy. He told me he’s only
seen it work successfully in about “2 out of 10 cases.” I’m not ready to give
up, though, as it seems there should be a solve here. As mentioned above, my
domain is beyond90seconds.com. Right now, the site looks bad as it reflects the
partial import of the xml file and defaults to a simple template (if you want
to see how the site is supposed to appear, please go to hornerscorner.wordpress.
com). Thanks, in advance, for considering this request for help!

 * I’m going to uninstall WordPress, then re-install. Then, attempt to import xml
file, again. Probably will produce the same result, but you never know…

 * Yep, same result. Installation stopped at same point. Same error message.

 * Tried into the night/morning. Still can’t get over the hump here. Any help would
   be much appreciated. Thanks.

 * What works for me:
 * Disable any/all plugins, then import. It will most likely fail or be incomplete,
   but it’s okay for now.
 * Open file called wp-settings.php, and change ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’32M’ to:
 * ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’ (**it’s near the top of the page**)
 * Upload/over-write that file on your server, then import again. This time, it
   should work.
 * Re-open that file, and change 128 back to 32, then upload/over-write.
