 * Hello everybody,
    since I’m using WordPress there has always been a problem with
   the update process. Suddenly it was stuck and I did not know whether the update
   was done or not. Changing memory limit and execution time did not help either!
   I really wish for WordPress, as such a great tool, to find a better way for updating
   plugins and core. For example a progress bar, where one can see the current status
   and that can download the necessary files not depending on the time set in php.
   ini, would be fine. After searching many boards, I found these problems appearing
   many times. And it is really annoying to install updates manually when there
   is an automatic function.
 * What do others think of the current update function? Ideas or tips to improve
   it?
 * Regards DonTimo

 * Try deactivating all plugins first, reverting to the default WordPress theme
   and then update WordPress.

 * Thanks for your answer. I tried this as well, but with no success.
    I think this
   update function in general is a little bit “old fashioned”, one could provide
   it with a graphical interface, instead of only waiting for php memory limit to
   appear. Guess that would solve many questions on the boards, if it would be easier
   to update.

 * For example the media uploader has such a progressbar, that works well for uploading.
   Maybe the same could be implemented for updating core/plugins = downloading files?

 * Are there for now any plans to change the update feature of WordPress to become
   more usable? There could for example be an option in the settings page to select
   between update process as it is now and another one with a built-in progress
   bar.
