    Hello,
I have a problem with Google indexing urls that are not submitted in sitemap. According to Google Search Console, I got almost 2k indexed urls (not in sitemap) that are urls ending with ?product_count=20&product_orderby=rating&product_order=asc, basically filtering parameters for product categories. In console, Google says that user declared canonical is correctly set but Google-selected canonical is the one with those parameters. And so I got ton of indexed URLs, which are basically all the same in terms of content. I’ve noticed that with rise of numbers of those indexed urls my rankings started to drop…Any thoughts how to fix this and get rid of those filter urls from index?

    Hi @vpanic

Unfortunately, your question is a bit outside the scope of the support we provide. Giving SEO advice, in most cases, requires a deep analysis of your site to provide accurate advice for your specific setup, even for what may seem to be a simple question.

We do know that the canonical URL output in the Yoast SEO plugin should include a sanitization process to remove the filtering parameters as discussed here. It seems like that is also the case since the user-declared canonical seems to be correct. However, we’re not sure as to why the Google-selected canonical includes the filtering parameters, or if this directly correlates to any sort of rankings drop. We recommend that you reach out to the Google Search Central Community for further clarification.
