 * I had my site hacked where they screwed my index.php file. I was told to re-load
   the MYSQL database and re-load it and that should re-create the index.php file….
   it does not. When you try to bring the site up I get garbage on the screen…please
   see link
    [http://www.militarycommcenter.com](http://www.militarycommcenter.com)
 * Any help would be appreciated.
 * Thanks
 * Gary

 * No, re-loading the database definitely does not re-create any files.
 * Remain calm and carefully follow [this guide](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked).
   When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of [the recommended security measures](http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress).

 * What theme are you using? You can search “Default Index.php code for wp theme[
   your theme]”
 * Hope I help!

 * That really doesn’t have anything to do with this. What theme they use won’t
   affect WordPress’s core index.php file, and if the theme needs to be reinstalled
   anyway, it’s always better to reinstall the whole theme.

 * According to my backup I have all the files in the correction locations, it’s
   the index file I’m having issues with. So the question still remains with updating
   the program fix or replace the index file?
 * Thanks again for everyone’s help.

 * Yes, in this case I’d just replace the index file with a fresh one, or better
   yet, all of the core file.
 * Try [downloading WordPress](http://wordpress.org/download/) again and delete
   then replace your copies of everything **except** the `wp-config.php` file and
   the `/wp-content/` directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively
   replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some
   uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete
   the original files before replacing them.

 * I have downloaded the newest version of the software, ran install after it connected
   to my server. Now I have a site but not the one with all my original site setting.
 * So let me understand what your telling me. Now that I’ve updated the program
   I should delete all directories and files except the two you mention above. Then
   using my ftp program copy all the files and directories from my local hard drive
   back to the server.
 * A little background, before the site cashed I had a backup of all the directories
   and files. When the site crashed I already had a backup so I deleted ALL directories
   and files from the server.
 * This last weekend again using my ftp program copies the backup files back to
   the server which is whats there now. Now my problem is with the new update I
   don’t see the actual web site I built but what looks like a new installation.
 * By re-installing all the files and directories from my backup with the new content
   and config directories in place do you think the old site will come up?
 * Thanks

 * No, I didn’t want you to update or install anything, just replace the files.
 * Can you go back to the working backup and start over from that? Just restore
   the backup, and if it works, only follow what I outlined in the reply above to
   just replace the files (no other updates or installations).

 * After deleting the files and directories on the server I copied all the original
   files back to the server from my local computer. Wasn’t that what you asked me
   to do?

 * The files that index.php is looking for don’t even exist in WordPress.
 * Did you delete and replace the index.php file with a fresh one from a WordPress
   download along with all the other files?
 * Does your pre-hack backup function if that’s restored?

 * After putting back the original files and directories I get the same thing I
   get now if you go to the url above. If I change the index file to a couple of
   the ones I have backed up it does change the appearance
    when you go to the link
   but that’s it. I get no real web site.
 * To answer your question about changing the index file from a fresch download
   I don’t remember what happens. I’ll upload it again and see what it does.
 * Thanks again for all your help

 * Do you have a file called wp-blog-header.php in the same directory as the primary
   index.php file?
